Will Josh Riley Defend The 60% of His Constituents Who Are Not Christians?

Josh Riley has said that he is concerned that Catholic Charities will lose federal government funding.

That raises the question of why Catholic Charities are receiving government funding.

Why isn’t the government providing services directly, instead of paying Catholic Charities, a religious organization to do it?

Some of the work of Catholic Charities is problematic, as when it provides addiction recovery services that are religiously-focused. New York State Governor Kathy Hochul has repeatedly refused to sign into law legislation passed by both houses of the New York State legislature to guarantee that people have access to non-religious addiction recovery services, so this issue matters in Upstate New York. Too often, addiction recovery services push religion onto people when they’re vulnerable, even though religion is not necessary for success in sobriety.

In many places, Catholic Charities refuses to provide its employees with unemployment insurance. So, even though Catholic Charities employees are paid with government money, they are left high and dry when they lose their jobs. This is unacceptable.

There is currently a case before the Supreme Court of the United States in which working people have brought a complaint against Catholic Charities.

So why is Josh Riley advocating for Catholic Charities in particular?

Why not advocate for appropriate separation of Church and State instead, and let government-paid workers get the benefits they deserve?

Will Josh Riley protect the rights of non-Christian New Yorkers

60 percent of Ithaca residents, and 60 percent of New York residents statewide, are non-Christian.

Given the rise of Christian Nationalism under Donald Trump, will Josh Riley defend the rights of people who are not Christian?
